Zygmuntowicz, Yosef (“Siggy”)


Yosef, son of Leib and Sarah Zygmuntowicz, was born on February 21, 1913 in Lodz, Poland. He immigrated to Israel in 1934, together with the Maccabiah. Immediately upon his arrival, he joined Hapoel in Herzliya and the Hagana. He dealt with the removal of illegal immigrants and the disarming of the illegal immigrant ships. On April 5, 1954, In the guard post of Bar-Giora, he was wounded and a few hours later died of his wounds. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. He left a wife and two children.
