Zvi, Eliyahu (Eli)

Eliyahu (Eli), son of Jonah and Yehuda, was born on July 17, 1944 in Tel Aviv. Eliahu was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of May 1962 and assigned to the Golani Brigade, where he was trained in various naval courses and became a combat soldier, a good soldier who was loyal and dedicated to his job. When the Six Day War broke out, Eli was called to his unit and took part in the battles, and after the war he returned home, and after a while he married a family member. In 1970 his eldest son was born and two years later his second son was born. He was an exemplary father and husband, faithful and devoted to his family and concerned for all her needs. He always knew how to buy people’s hearts, and his connections with his friends and acquaintances became closer. Everyone liked him very much for his pleasant temperament and his easy nature and his willingness to always help anyone. He often went to acquaintances and did all kinds of carpentry work after work hours, not to receive payment. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Eli was drafted and sent to the Golan Heights. After a stubborn fight against the invading Syrians, his battalion arrived at the area and was stationed on a hill overlooking the area. On October 11, 1973, the Syrians began a heavy shelling on the hill. Hundreds of bombs landed on the area and thousands of shrapnel flew through the air. One of them hit Eli and he died. He was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. He left behind a wife and two sons, parents and six sisters. After being shot down, he was given the rank of corporal.
