Son of Eliahu and Berta. He was born on the 27th of Tevet 5702 (27.12.1941) in Algeria where he even began to study, and in 1955 he immigrated to Israel as part of the “Youth Aliyah” He settled in Kibbutz Mashavei Sade in the Negev, where he was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1960. After he enlisted, he decided that his place in the IDF and his service was his mission, and he began to rise to the rank of sergeant, then completed an officer’s course and was a lieutenant in the battles against the Syrians during the events that took place before the Six-Day War. Yohanan planned to go to study during the period following his regular service, but knowing that the army needed him during this period of tension and fighting, he decided to postpone his release from the army and join the permanent army. In the Six Day War, Yohanan fought the famous outposts of Tel Azzayat and Tel Faher, Which were under Syrian control at that time, and John was miraculously saved when he hit a vulnerable shell Watch where the half-track. Some of his men were killed and wounded, but he survived safely and continued to fight. At the end of the war, he continued to fight in all parts of the north, the Golan Heights, the Jordan border, the Beit Shean Valley, the Jordan Valley and the Lebanese border. In fact, there was no action in the Northern Command that did not participate. Even in the area of the Suez Canal he fought. The IDF was his great love, but when he came home on vacation he forgot the army and devoted himself entirely to the house, because he loved him and wanted to enjoy every moment with his family. After a period of quiet, the Syrians stepped up their war on the Syrian front, Syrian tanks crossed the cease-fire line and an armored force even penetrated one of our outposts, in response to a force of The IDF crossed the cease-fire line and captured the Syrian posts in a coordinated operation of tanks, artillery and aircraft. This was the most difficult battle since the Six-Day War and was intended to “prevent the opening of a new canal-like front.” In this battle, on the 26th of Sivan 5706 (26.6.1970), Major Yochanan fell. One hour after his wife, son of, fell, and his name was called Golan, to symbolize Yochanan’s deep connection to the Golan Heights. He left a wife, a daughter and a son. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Afula. Tel Fares, where he was killed, is named after him – Tel Zohar.
