Zitan, Noam
Noam, son of Yehudit and Hillel, was born on May 2, 1953 in Lehavot Habashan, five years after the birth of his eldest sister.
Noam was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of November 1972 and assigned to the Infantry Corps, after which he was sent to a squad commanders’ course but was unable to finish because of the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War. In the Yom Kippur War, Noam fought with his unit in the Golan Heights as a machine gunner in the company’s half-track. All around him there were terrifying bombardments and Noam sat in his place smiling and waiting for what was to come. Suddenly he made an uncharacteristic gesture-he took the prayer of battle out of his pocket and began to read. On October 8, 1973, Noam fell in a clash with Syrian commandos on the Hermon. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Lehavot Habashan. Survived by father, mother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
