Zilber, Daniel-Menachem
Son of Devorah and Avraham Yaakov, he was born in Tel Aviv on June 16, 1961. Danny lived in the Yad Eliyahu neighborhood until the age of 6. In June 1967, his parents traveled to Paris, where he studied for four years at the Israeli School. After returning to Israel with his parents, he continued to study at the Brenner School in Givatayim and at the Kalai High Schoo. He had curly hair, laughing eyes, was graceful and amiable. His talents were unique, but he always worked together. He was a bookworm, but also very friendly. Danny loved sports and was a soccer player in the Hapoel Ramat Gan youth and children’s team, with a high level of thinking and a rare ability to analyze. At the age of 18, Danny enlisted in the IDF for the Golani Brigade and completed his basic training as an outstanding trainee, and was immediately sent to a course for class commanders. He was an outstanding student. He went back to training in a brigade commander’s school as a battalion operations officer, and in that capacity went to the Peace for Galilee War, and was scheduled to leave for a company commander course in August 1982, but because of the war the course was postponed to October. Danny did not get to participate in it. He fell on 23 Av, August 12, 1982, in a battle in Beirut, in the shelling of a commanders’ tour, in which he participated. Danny fell a few days after he began serving in the permanent army with the rank of lieutenant. His commanding officers regarded him as “quiet, diligent and exceptionally responsible, and he was very good at his job, and showed great initiative and openness, and he was able to educate his fellow fighters with words and deeds.” After his death Danny was promoted to captain. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind his parents and two brothers.
