He also participated in the pursuit of the Jordan Valley and the raid in Beirut. As a fighter in the paratroopers, he underwent a series of courses. In November 1968, he was promoted to the rank of corporal, and in July 1969 he rose to the rank of sergeant, and in one of the parachuting maneuvers he was hit in the leg and transferred to an intelligence unit of the paratroopers. In October 1970, Ran was discharged from the IDF and began studying at Tel Aviv University, where he studied general history and the history of the Jewish people, and studied law in the evenings and found time to work and support himself. On the day he went to the front, he managed to marry his wife, and when he returned to the university he moved to Moshav Talmei Menashe near Ramle, and his two children were born in Tel Aviv. He was an independent lawyer, and during this period he showed diligence and work ability He was involved in public affairs, was active in sports, and was very interested in social and political processes in the country, was aware of social justice and offered legal help to his neighbors in the moshav. And on the eve of the war in Lebanon, he was called up for reserve duty, fought in the eastern sector and advanced towards the Beirut-Damascus road, and on June 11, 1982, his unit felt the need for an armored force that was caught in a Syrian ambush and suffered heavy losses . A Sagger missile fired from a Syrian tank hit him and Ran was wounded by mortal wounds. He was 32 when he died. Ran was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul in Tel Aviv. He left behind a wife, son, daughter, parents and brother. The defense minister wrote to his family: “Ran served in the Paratroopers Brigade, participated in the War of Attrition, in the raid on the island of Shadan and on the island of Green, in a raid on Beirut and in the crackers in the Jordan Valley.
