He was attacked by four Egyptian Spitfires and was unable to fly high enough to maneuver in battle. A bundle that hit the plane ended his life and the life of the explorer who was with him. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. After his fall, he was granted the rank of airborne officer (lieutenant).
