Zeubisch, Joseph


Joseph, son of Bilha and son of-Bezalel, was born on November 5, 1952 in Tel Aviv. He attended the Moshe Hess Elementary School and the Tel Aviv Municipal High School. As a child, Yossi was stubborn, rebellious, and failed in his studies. Gradually, he underwent a surprising change.Joseph was drafted into the IDF in early February 1971, was assigned to the Armored Corps and passed many courses, all of which he completed with high grades: tank tanker course, tank gun course, tank course and tank commander course. Toward the end of his compulsory service, Yossi was enrolled in medical studies at Tel Aviv University. He also began to build stereo systems in his spare time in the hope that when the time came, he could finance his studies in selling them. “Yossi was ready for life, he was talented, handsome, energetic and energetic, he knew what he had in front of him, he was a 20-year-old boy. Two days before the Yom Kippur War broke out, Yossi telephoned and announced that he would not be there soon – all holidays were canceled. During the war Yossi was discovered as a fearless warrior. The war in Sinai continued at full speed. Yossi replaced a tank, but that too was hit by the shell. He was hit once, hit twice, three, four and five times. Yossi, with supreme composure, corrected his instrument again and again and continued to fight – at an excellent professional level, with great judgment and courage. Yossi, who was an outstanding trainee in a course for armor crews, proved his theory in practice on the battlefield. On the 22nd of Tishrei 5740 (22.10.1973), the cease-fire day, his unit moved west of the canal, south of Fayyad, and Yossi’s tank suffered his sixth fatal injury, and Yossi fell. For his heroism in the battles and especially for his courageous behavior on the October 8 battle, in which his tank was hit five times, Yossi was awarded the Medal of Valor. This is the text of the decoration certificate: “On October 8, 1973, the battalion, of which the late Sergeant Joseph Zubeish was a member, carried out a counter-attack against the enemy in a” device “. In the course of an assault, seven tanks of the battalion were injured, and the force was split into secondary forces, across the entire target. The tank, under the command of Sergeant Yosef Zubeish z “l, surpassed the target together with the battalion commander’s tank. At the end of the assault, the eye contact between the two tanks was lost, but Sergeant Yosef Zubeish z “l continued attacking, despite the fact that his tank was badly damaged and eventually rescued his crew and other crew members and brought them safely to our forces. Once he managed to repair it and continued to fight, for the sixth time, when the tank was hit, he was killed, with courage, coolness, resourcefulness and dedication to the mission. ” He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant. He left behind a mother and brother.
