Zetler, Ephraim

Ephraim, son of son of-Zion and Hannah Zetler, was born on 31.3.1923 in Petach Tikva. His father was one of the first builders of Kfar Saba. He studies at the Petach Tikva high school, and at age of 14 he joined the Etzel youth group. After the split in this organization in 1940 Ephraim moved to Lehi and was arrested in early 1942. During his six years in prison, he completed various studies in the high school curriculum, and as a political prisoner he was a detainee in all the detention camps in Israel and in the African Diaspora. Immediately after his return to Israel in 1948, Ephraim joined the IDF, took part in the conquest of the Galilee and excelled in combat as a platoon commander, served in various positions in the Negev as a training officer, and on the 14th of Elul, 27.8.1950 his car rode over an anti-tank mine, planted by the enemy, and this explosion caused his death. He told his doctor that he had better take care of his wounded comrades rather than him because he was going to die anyway. Ephraim was laid to rest in the cemetery in Kfar Saba. After that, the family donated to the Hapoel group in Kfar Saba a silver trophy in his memory.
