Zehavi Moshe

Moshe was born to Mazal and David, in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1949. At the age of two, he immigrated to Israel with his family to the Givat Aliya neighborhood of Jaffa. Moshe was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early August 1965, and was assigned to the Ordnance Corps, where he completed his professional training courses in the electricity industry: electric motors, electricians and Paterson tanks, “Patton” for operational service in the IDF and was sent to the United States for training in the various systems of the tank. To this day, apprentices recite the lesson plans which he had a hand in preparing and practicing in the instruments he was developing. With the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War, he was about to graduate from his studies in order to obtain a degree in electronics engineering. During the war, Moshe participated in the battles of containment and break-in in Sinai, in the role of electrician Patton tanks in a reconnaissance unit. From the first hour of the battles, he set the slogan: “A tank will not stand because of a mishap” and made sure to keep it in practice until the last moments of his life. On the 23rd of Tishrei 5734 (19.10.1973), during the conquest of the Orha (Serfaum) compound on the western bank of the Suez Canal, the half-track, with which he tried to rescue the wounded, was found in the area exposed to enemy fire and he was killed. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul, leaving behind a wife, parents and two brothers and was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
