Zarei, Israel

Son of Yitzhak and Regina. He was born on July 27, 1951, in Haifa. The parents, from the immigrants of Iraq, called their son Israel, the name of the country to which they immigrated and on which he sacrificed his soul. During breaks he would talk to the teachers and always try to improve his grades and achievements, but he always knew how to accept the teacher’s rebuke in good spirits. When Israel asked for help and guidance on how to learn a profession and at the same time help parents, he was sent to work as a trainee in a carpentry shop. He worked diligently and within a short time absorbed himself and specialized in work quickly. At the “Amal” apprenticeship in Petach Tikvah he completed his apprenticeship course in the wood industry and was active in the culture committee at the club of the professional division, so that he organized a group of students and went with them to a week of study at the Haifa branch. A member of the lecturers and instructors there admired his personality and his friendly approach to everyone. At the local branch all his friends asked for his girlfriend and were always ready to accept his wise advice. Israel was drafted into the IDF in May 1969 and assigned to the Armored Corps on February 5, 1970. He fell in the area of the Suez Canal during an encounter with the enemy and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Hod Hasharon.
