Yaron, Jacob
Jacob, son of Dina and Joseph, was born on the 13th of Cheshvan 5713 (13.11.1952) in Jerusalem. He attended the “Alliance Israelite Universelle” elementary school in the Mahane Yehuda neighborhood of Jerusalem, and later attended the school in evening studies. Jacob, known as Kobi, was well aware of the difficulties of earning a living for the large family and therefore went to work after graduating from elementary school and gave his parents money, thus helping to support the family. He worked in the “Phenicia” factory and was a devoted and loyal worker, who was also liked by the foremen and his fellow workers. He made great efforts to succeed in his work, and indeed achieved great achievements and gained the status of a professional worker. In the afternoon he helped his father run a vegetable stand in the Mahane Yehuda market. He would hurry up from his place of work to the market, and then go on to school, where he completed his education in evening studies. Jacob was a dedicated and loyal friend. Although his daily schedule was full, he did not spare his time to help every friend and friend who needed his help. He loved the work of the hands and during his spare time he designed animal and household figures made of glass. He had a sensitive soul and his sensitivity was expressed in his paintings. For many hours he used to sit and raise his experiences in drawing, and indeed left behind a large collection of landscape pictures, attesting to his great talent in painting. Jacob liked to listen to music and especially to songs and songs. He could play the guitar and accompany his singing. Sometimes he composed melodies and words and performed his own compositions himself. His friends loved to gather around him, to listen to his singing and music, which would sweep everyone to join him. Yaakov was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of November 1970 and was assigned to the Armored Corps, where he completed a course for tank drivers and was sent to serve in an armored unit in the Sinai. And during the holidays he helped his parents and made it easier for them to take care of the household, and in early 1973 he was about to be released from regular service and even prepared many plans for his future, but failed to realize them. IDF soldiers besieged in strongholds. On the 7th of Tishrei 5734 (7.10.1973) Yaakov was in the armored personnel carrier, returning from a rescue mission with wounded armored personnel carriers, and the APC was attacked by Egyptian soldiers and Yaakov was hit and killed. He was laid to rest at the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant.
