Yacobi, Moshe
Son of Esther and Tzemach, was born on December 3, 1918 in the city of Konotop, Chernigov, Russia. His father was an active Zionist and educated his sons in traditional education. Moshe was five years old when the parents immigrated with their children to Israel in 1924. Moshe joined the Haganah for liaison positions and later became involved in training and other responsible positions. During the Second World War he worked in the construction of fortifications in Israel and abroad – in Syria and Lebanon. Moshe excelled in this work and rose to the rank of foreman. After returning to his home he took an evening course for construction and completed the course with honors. He retired from the civil service and worked in construction until the outbreak of the War of Independence. Moshe was a modest man, worried about his family, understood people as a brother and a good friend. At the beginning of 1948 Moshe joined the battle, served in the Golani brigade and was sent to Tiberias and Ein Gev. He participated in the defense of Ein Gev, returned to Tiberias and together with his battalion was transferred to Kfar Tavor. His last stop was in the battles against Kaukji’s “Salvation Army” in the vicinity of Sejera as a soldier in the auxiliary company of the Barak Battalion. Moshe fell on the 4th of Tamuz (11.7.1948) near Sejera, together with the platoon commander, when an enemy shell hit one of the staff positions. He was brought to rest in the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
