Weizmann, Zion
Zion, son of Simi and Yosef, was born on 27.3.1955 in Afula, where he began his studies at the elementary school in Migdal HaEmek and after his family moved to Tel Aviv he continued to study at the Shavei Zion school in Jaffa. In 1969, he joined the youth group at Kibbutz Givat Brenner and spent three years in the kibbutz, where he attended high school, where he had to work in order to help support the family. He was very social and was always surrounded by friends and friends loved to be with him. Zion was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of May 1973. After completing basic training, he was assigned to a tank battalion and served as a unit storekeeper, during which he spent most of his service in the Golan Heights, (October 6, 1973), Zion was hit and killed by the enemy’s shelling of our forces in the Naqab region. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Eilat, where he recently lived. Left behind a mother, who died shortly after his fall in battle, brothers and sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “Corporal Zion was a soldier in the Armored Corps unit. During his service in the unit he became fond of his friends and commanders. He was devoted to his job and performed his duties with dedication and precision. “
