Weiss, Arieh

Son of Moshe and Dalia. He was born on January 6, 1947 in Kibbutz Haogen. He spent his childhood in the “Arnim” seminar, where his family moved, and in this environment he immersed in him the love for nature and its flora and fauna. He loved to travel in nature and to stay there. After graduating from elementary school in Kiryat Tivon, he studied at the Sprinzak vocational school in Haifa and completed his studies there. In the past year he has moved to an academic high school where he was preparing for his matriculation exams. In ninth grade he joined the Hanoar Haoved movement and even HaPoel. He liked music and especially classical music and could listen to it for hours on end. He liked literature too. He was a member of the “Kadesh” group which later completed Kibbutz Yiftach. He joined the Nahal Brigade in September 1965. After completing his basic training he went to a squad commander’s course and when he finished he joined the parachuting Nahal Brigade and even managed to teach one course as a lieutenant colonel. He was kind; this quality that stood out from his childhood and always walked with a worn-out expression on his lips and thus promoted everything. His love for nature and his love for his camera went hand in hand, and during his vacation, when he went wandering in nature, he did not forget the camera to catch his favorite landscapes. He praised the army and loved and trusted him in everything – and every Friday night, when his friends were raising wine glasses, he would greet him “to the life of the IDF” (instead of “life” as usual.) In the midst of his regular service, the Six Day War broke out, 28.6.1967, was killed in a battle in the Old City of Jerusalem, where he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, in a book called “Aryeh Gabro” The book, “On Their Way,” which was published by the Union of the Kibbutzim and the Kibbutzim in memory of the fallen of the Union, contains several pages, His death.
