Weinberger, Menachem (Mendel)


Son of Faiga and Mordechai. Was born on February 3, 1925 in the city of Ropshitz, in western Galicia, Poland, in a Hasidic family and educated a religious education from his childhood, and Menachem attended elementary school, “cheder” and “yeshiva” in Krakow. After the Second World War, he left Germany and went to Belgium, where he was accepted to his uncle’s home and, in the religious and Zionist atmosphere of this house, reached Zionist consciousness and joined the “Bachad” (“Alliance of Religious Pioneers”) in the village of Lev in Belgium. He proved his energy and dedication and served as a cultural and spiritual guide. In 1946, he immigrated to Eretz Israel and joined Kfar Etzion, where he became familiar with his evening voice and musical bent, his love of Israel and his comfortable character. At the time of the attack on Kfar Etzion, position 7, the south-west, was within close range of enemy fire, and when the Arab Legion was deployed to the village, he fell on 4 Iyar, 13 May 1948. He left behind a wife. After his death, his son was born. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was brought with the rest of the victims of the Gush to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
