Viernik, Yisrael-Tzvi (Srulik)


Son of Esther-Rachel and Yaakov-Yitzhak HaKohen, was born in 1922 in the city of Zopot near Danzig. Yisrael-Tzvi immigrated to Eretz Israel in February 1939. He spent a few months in Givat Hashlosha and later joined Betar in Rosh Pina. His parents and the rest of the family remained in Poland and perished in the Holocaust. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he participated in the battle for Jaffa and other battles. In a battle for Ramle, he headed a platoon for a patrol, was wounded and died on 26.5.1948. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
