Vasa, David
David, son of Haton and Salim, was born in 1946 in Iraq and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1950. David was drafted into the IDF in early November 1964. After completing basic training he participated in a paratroopers training course and completed a course for squad commanders and successfully completed a course for infantry officers at the IDF Officers School. He served as the commander of the Paratroopers Brigade and was promoted to lieutenant. In early May 1967, David was released from regular service and assigned to a reserve parachutists unit. In this unit he was called for periods of reserve duty and with it he fought in the Six-Day War and the War of Attrition. During the Yom Kippur War, David participated in the battle against the Egyptians. On October 16, 1973, his unit participated in the battles for the construction of a bridgehead on the Suez Canal, and courageously guided the force under his command to prepare the area for the crossing of the Suez Canal, and was killed. David was buried in the Ein Harod cemetery, and he left behind his parents, brothers and sisters, and was promoted to the rank of captain.
