Valdfogel, Joseph
Son of Yehudit and Dov, who immigrated to Eretz Israel in the Third Aliyah. He was born on March 15, 1927 in Tel Aviv and his home absorbed the values of Judaism and socialist Zionism. He first studied at the Carmel elementary school in his hometown and then attended high school in the early hours of the morning and worked in the mornings to earn a living. He was an active member of the Hanoar Haoved movement and enthusiastically filled every role assigned to him. In addition, he joined the Haganah and Chayash and worked in their ranks, and he was gifted with writing skills and was emotionally attached to the landscapes of the country he had known for his many trips. He was also enthusiastic about the landscape and the varied vegetation of the Galilee and the wild splendor of the Judean Hills, and joined the immigrants to Nahir, and since then his love for the region has grown. He fell on 20 Nisan (10.4.1947), leaving behind parents and a brother. His parents and friends published a booklet in his memory containing friends’ comments on him. Dov Sadan wrote about Joseph: “It is like the sad sadness of a boy whose love for his homeland, which is close to her and within it, brought him to the top of a cliff and ended up at the top of a mountain.”
