Undr, Yosef


Yosef, son of Dobrish and Avraham-Zvi Undr, was born on September 20, 1913 in the city of Sassov, East Galicia, the fifth child of a Hassidic family. He excelled in his studies in the “cheder” and in the Polish elementary school. When he was a child, his mother died. Yosef joined the “Bnei Akiva” branch and was one of its operators. At the beginning of 1938 he came to Eretz Israel with Company B of the “Avraham” group, which was temporarily admitted to the Shachal group of HaPoel Hamizrachi in Rehovot. He worked in orchards, roads and a building in the Agrovank neighborhood of Holon. During the siege of the Gush, he took part in guarding and fortifications, and on behalf of the group he was sent to help organize the mothers and children who were transferred to Jerusalem. Yosef fell in the fall of the village on 4 Iyar, May 13, 1948. On the 25th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
