Tzelnik, Menashe


Menashe, son of Chava and Shabtai Tzelnik, was born in 1927 in Essen, Germany, and immigrated to Israel on October 29, 1934. His parents settled in Haifa and for many years he was an active member of the Haganah and took a course for instructors. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was one of the first volunteers to join the army. He was one of the liberators of Haifa and Acre, and once he saved a boat full of people and weapons with his own hands, diving to the depths of the water to save the precious weapons and people. He was among the liberators of the Upper Galilee and during Operation Brosh, in fierce battles in the Mishmar Hayarden region he fell, on the 18th of Tammuz 5708 (18.7.1948). He was laid to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Rosh Pina.
