Titlbaum, Abraham
Son of Yaffe and Moshe, was born on March 13, 1925 in the city of Ryszów, Galicia. In his city he received a traditional Jewish education in the “cheder” and even studied secular studies with a private teacher. In May 1935 he immigrated to Israel with his family. The state of unemployment that prevailed at that time in the country made it difficult for the family to absorb the family, which added four more daughters to Abraham, so his uncle took him to his farm in Tel Adashim. Where Abraham studied for five years, worked in the farm, became immersed in the life of the land and became a man of the land, a gardener who loves a flower and a tree, honest, caring for his family with all his Lev and is ready to help anyone. After his return from Tel Adashim he worked as an assistant to the builder and every penny earned a message for the family’s existence. Since his arrival in Israel he has been a member of the Haganah. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he enlisted and became an army man, although military life did not appeal to him, and in the early battles he underwent a severe emotional crisis. “I was not born to be a man of the army, I am a man of the land” – was used to telling his relatives. Despite this view, he was one of the first volunteers to fulfill his duty with recognition and devotion. Avraham participated in the battles of Mishmar HaEmek in a campaign against Kaukji’s forces. On May 6, 1948, a Golani force took control of the village of Arab a-Zabih near Beit Keshet, took control of it and blew up some of its houses. The organization of the force for withdrawal was delayed, and in the process the Arabs launched a counterattack. Many of the force fighters fell in the harsh retreat. This battle fell on the 27th of Nissan 5708 (May 6, 1948). He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Beit Keshet.
