Tilhiov, Eliyahu


Eliyahu, son of Rachel and David Tilhiov, was born on March 16, 1927 in Bukhara, to a religiously observant family. In 1932 he immigrated to Israel with his parents and the family settled in Jerusalem. Eliyahu attended the boys’ school and after graduating he moved to Netanya and studied diamond polishing work. When he moved from Netanya to Jerusalem, he joined the 30th Battalion, founded by the veterans of Latrun Prison, and joined the Etzel veterans’ unit and fought with it in many battles. In his last battle he defended occupied Malcha. Eliyahu saw most of his comrades fall and yet did not retreat. He stood alone and fired at the enemy from an extreme position, until finally he fell on the 8th of Tammuz 5708 (July 15, 1948.) He was buried in Sheikh Bader A. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
