Tichauer (Efroni), Chaim (Heinz)


Chaim, son of Margarita and Aryeh Tichauer (Efroni), was born in 1927 in Gliwice, Upper Silesia, Germany. He immigrated to Israel with his parents in 1936 and the family settled in Haifa. When he grew up he joined the Haganah and completed a course for combat medics. With the outbreak of the War of Independence in late 1947, he enlisted in the IDF and left with his unit from Haifa to protect the Upper Galilee. On 3 Tamuz, July 10, 1948, Chaim was hit by an armored Syrian attack. His body was missing and a monument was erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in his memory. In September 2004. In the framework of the investigation of the Unit for Locating Missing Persons in the IDF, it was found that Chaim is buried in the military cemetery in Rosh Pina.
