Tenenbaum, Yadin
Yadin, son of Rivka and Zvi, seventh generation of the Salomon family, who was born in Jerusalem, was born on September 5, 1954 in Tel Aviv, Yadin was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of November 1972. At first he was offered to be a flautist in the IDF orchestra, but because he was fit to serve in the combat force, he rejected this offer and volunteered for the Armored Corps. After completing basic training, he completed a course in the “Centurion” tank course, and even excelled in it and was awarded a high grade (95). He also paid a course for the commanders of the Centurion tank, but did not complete it because of the war; Since the students were sent to the front. According to his commander, he was to be an outstanding trainee in the course. He was willful, though he had no great physical ability. By force of his will he tried and even succeeded in compensating for all his limitations in the physical force required by the Armored Corps. His commander says: “He was modest, unobtrusive, quiet and loving to help others, he knew what he wanted, he knew how to demand from others, but first he demanded of himself.” On the morning of Yom Kippur, Yadin and his friends went out in three tanks to the water line. The three tanks, the first to arrive at the banks of the canal, were ordered to stop the Egyptian forces in the breach that had succeeded in breaking through. With his devotion and sacrifice, the attack was halted and a precious time for our soldiers to organize for protection. For having shown courage, worthy of being a model, he was awarded the “masterpiece”. “On the night of October 7, 1973, the late Sergeant Yadin Tenenbaum fought as a tank cannon on the embankment north of Ma’oz”. At midnight, the tank was stuck near the embankment, just in front of the breach, where the Egyptian armored corps and infantry were supposed to cross, and although the tank was unable to move, the crew decided to stay in the tank and continue to fight the turret alone. Yadin was initially considered missing, and later was declared where his burial place was unknown. His body was later identified and he was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. Survived by his parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
