Sufrin, Shmuel

Son of Leib and Ante. Born in Romania on April 20, 1934. He studied in an elementary school in Romania and in a vocational high school, and prepared to continue his studies in a practical engineering school, but gave up his plans when he immigrated to Israel with his family in 1951. The Hebrew language was acquired within a few months in the studio and later completed his knowledge of the profession of retinue, and he was drafted into the IDF at the end of December 1952 and assigned to the Artillery Corps. He completed his compulsory service and joined the regular army. After a few years in the Artillery Corps, Shmuel underwent an officers’ course and was assigned to the navy. He loved military life very much, was dedicated to his work and his subordinates, and did not spare himself any effort for his soldiers. He made sure to establish a club for the soldiers and contributed greatly to his equipment. Was a devoted father to his children and took them on trips whenever possible. His devotion to the IDF was proven until the last hours of his life, when he fell ill and felt great pain, but continued to do his duty as part of his job. “In the letter of condolence to the widow, his commander wrote, among other things:” We will always remember Major Sopriin as a good and diligent member and as a dedicated officer of his job, who knows the size of the soldier, Mission and responsibility. “The commander added:” His achievements and diligence in fulfilling his duties will serve us and those who follow him as a supreme personal example. “
