Sommerfeld, Zevik


The youngest son of Michal and Dan. He was born on July 16, 1976 in Rehovot. Zevik enlisted on November 24, 1994. After completing basic training, he went on a sniper course and was given a break from the arduous course. Zevik did not easily separate from his friends for three weeks, but overcame and finished the course. First Sergeant Zevik Sommerfeld fell in combat in Lebanon on 9 May 1997. That same day his unit engaged in special operational activity north of the security zone, a battle broke out and Zevik was killed in this battle and the commander of the force was wounded. Captain Eran Shamir took command and continued the battle until the squad was liquidated. When the force began to make its way back to the security zone, while there was movement, another clash occurred. In this battle, Eran fell with the First Sergeant, Ran Mezuman. Zevik was twenty-one years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery. Survived by parents and two sisters.
