Sokol, Yonatan-Moshe

Son of Chana Tova and Shmuel Baruch (Steven). He was born on November 23, 1984 in New York, United States. Brother to David-Yehuda, Jacob (Kobi) -Joseph, Meir-Simcha, Alka and Hedva. Jonathan grew up in Monsey, New York and attended the Spring Valley Yeshiva. He loved riding a bike, riding fifty miles each time, several times a week, and running a bike-riding downhill. Another hobby he had – book binding and repair. Yonatan worked as a gardener from the age of fourteen and at the age of sixteen he also worked as a waiter. What mattered most to him was to donate ten percent of his income to needy brides, which he always did. His family tells of his gentleness, of the broad smile and of his bright brown eyes. His brother-in-law Daniel remembered his white hat, his clean fingernails and his impeccably clean clothes-he was careful to look clean and aesthetic, and, according to his brother-in-law, he looked like an angel in white. When he was gardening he would have assumed his fingernails would fill with dirt, but not with Jonathan, so careful about his appearance. For those around him it was very pleasant to be near him. At the age of twenty, he worked as a manager of a second-hand medical machine factory. The factory repaired the machines and Yonatan used to travel in the United States in order to bring them to the needy. Once he told his mother that everyone should have a passion for life. Yonatan was known for his directness and for his lies. At the age of 22, on 11 February 2007, he immigrated to Israel. His parents and brothers also immigrated to Israel. The sisters and their families remained in New York. Six months later, on August 22, Yonatan enlisted in the Nahal Brigade, where he was almost twenty-three years old, and his friends and commanders told him that he was an outstanding soldier, volunteered for every mission and expressed his desire to help. ), When Jonathan found his death. Private Yonatan-Moshe Sokol fell during his military service on the 4th of Nisan 5768 (4.5.2008). He was twenty-three and a half when he fell.
