Sion (Wolf), Eliezer (Eli)


Son of Ella and Yosef, was born on January 13, 1953, in Kiryat Haim in Haifa. In his parents’ home, Eli absorbed love for Israel and devotion to the IDF, and his father was a veteran employee of the Defense Ministry, and his mother was a school secretary, who began his education at the Nativim Elementary School and continued to study at the Kiryat Haim high school. Eli was ready to prepare himself for his induction into the IDF with the Nahal Brigade. Before joining the army, he even left for Shalhat in Kibbutz Neveh Eitan in the Jordan Valley, where he served in the Nahal Brigade in November 1970. At first he served in the Nahal paramilitary brigade, Officers’ course. Eli successfully completed the course, and in October 1972 he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and in October 1973 he rose to the rank of lieutenant.I participated as a platoon commander in the difficult battles of the Yom Kippur War in the Egyptian sector, But decided to tie his future with the IDF and volunteered to go on a pilot’s course, and when he completed his pilots’ course in July 1975, Eli wandered with him to military bases where he served, and even his children were born there. In October 1976, he rose to the rank of captain, and for two years Eli retired from the army Set and went on to study at son of-Gurion University in Beersheba, but not for long dissociated himself from military service. In the summer of 1979, he returned to serve as a pilot at the Flying School. He pledged to serve in the regular army until he retired. In October 1981, Eli was promoted to the rank of Major when the Peace for Galilee War broke out and he was on command post in the front line On the second day of the war, on the 26th of Sivan, 5762 (1962), he was escorted to a rescue helicopter in the Nabatiyeh area. Four members of the crew were shot dead by the enemy, all of whom died, including Eli, 29, who was buried at the military cemetery in Haifa and left behind a wife, daughter, son, parents and sister.
