Silberman, Yitzhak


Son of Esther and Eliezer, was born on 9.7.1929 in the city of Pinsk, Poland, where his mother traveled from Israel during her pregnancy. And from the age of 14. He was a member of the Hagana, and after the elementary school he completed an electrification course at the Montefiore Technical School in Tel Aviv and later worked in the power station in Tel Aviv. The Haganah youth and fulfilled every order with devotion, without fear of danger or imprisonment.12 On December 12, 1947, about two weeks after the UN General Assembly decided to divide the country into two states, And served in the Alexandroni Brigade. Participated in the battles of Ramat Hakovesh, Bir Adas, Kfar Saba, Qalqiliya and the occupation of Tel Litvinsky, Salameh, Sakia, Hiriya and the surrounding area. During the battles in Wadi Ara he was sent by order of the doctor to a military hospital. A few days later he himself decided that he was healthy, ran away from the hospital without permission, and stood up for further service. Given the circumstances and the psychological factor, he was not prosecuted for “desertion.” He was sent to the radio department as a professional school graduate, where he was given a travel order for three days off until he arrived. But the stormy battles in the Latrun area did not allow him to devote himself to the pleasures of the vacation and to cancel time. On his own, he joined the fighters in Operation son of-Nun A to conquer the Legion complex in Latrun in order to break through the besieged city of Jerusalem, where he fell on the 17th of Iyar 5708 (May 26, 1948). At first he was considered missing, but eventually it turned out that he had fallen in battle. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
