Shviro, Yechezkel
He was born in 1942 in Baghdad, Iraq, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1951. Yechezkel was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1959 and assigned to the Engineering Corps. After basic training, he took a driving course and was assigned to a corps unit. In his unit he was considered a good soldier, responsible and devoted to his job. His commanders appreciated him and his friends found him a good friend, comfortable and fair. After he was discharged from the regular army service, he was assigned to the medical corps and completed a course for departmental medics. He participated in the war in 1967 and was awarded the “Six Day War Award”. All his life he was devoted to his parents and a loyal brother to his brothers and sisters. Yechezkel was a loving husband to his wife Ruth and a devoted father to his little daughter Einat. When the Yom Kippur War broke out he was drafted and sent with his unit to the Golan Heights front. On October 10, 1973, Yechezkel was killed by a shell in a field hospital near El Al. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a wife and daughter, parents, three brothers and two sisters. His son, who was born two weeks after he fell, bears his name – Yechezkel. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
