Shvili, Shlomo


Son of Simcha and Jacob. He was born in 1906 in Tiflis, Georgia, immigrated to Israel in 1923 and settled in Jerusalem, where he studied at the boys’ school, then worked in road construction, quarrying and guarding. He participated in the establishment of a Georgian folkloric band and even took an active part in it as a drummer and as an excellent dancer, and as a pleasant, cheerful man he was a cheerful, cheerful man, creating an atmosphere of joy around him. On July 21, 1938, he was in a drilling camp on the western shore of the Dead Sea near Ein Feshcha. In an armed Arab gang attack on the camp workers, three people were killed. Shlomo was seriously injured and brought to a hospital in Jerusalem. He died of his wounds on the 23rd of Tammuz 5638 (22.7.1938) and was laid to rest on the Mount of Olives. He placed a pregnant wife, son, daughter and parents. The daughter who was born after his fall was named after him – Shlomit. On a stone rock from the local stone, located above the drilling pit – the place of their murder, at the foot of the Qumran caves, was written by their friend Moshe Adaki who was with them at the time of the attack, and succeeded in escaping: “Here the Haganah, Shlomo Shvili, Abraham Zalokowitz, and they went to find water to revive the wilderness. “
