Shref, Chaim (Heini)


Chaim, son of Moshe and Yehudit Shref, was born in 1929 in Konstanz, Germany. His parents immigrated to Israel and settled in Rishon Letzion. He served in the Givati ​​Brigade and served as a machine gunner and provided assistance to the attacked village of Oriya. He was loved by his men and commanders. With his sense of humor, he encouraged his friends with funny descriptions in very tense times of battle. Chaim was injured in an accident and lay in a hospital with a severe concussion. During his recovery he joined his company and continued to fight valiantly. The building he was in was blown up and Chaim was hit by one of the heavy stones and died on 22 Tishrei, October 25, 1948. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion.
