Shmueli, Moshe

Son of Rachel and David, was born in 1928 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. In 1936 he immigrated to Israel with his family, who settled in Jerusalem. With the outbreak of the War of Independence following the United Nations General Assembly resolution of 29 November 1947 on the partition of the country, a full mobilization was enlisted in the Irgun. He participated in the battles of the southern front of Jerusalem, in the defense of Ramat Rachel during the decisive battles, on Mount Zion and the police school. After the end of the first truce he participated as the first translator in the conquest of Malha. In a counter-attack by the enemy of Beit Jala, Moshe took it upon himself to announce the imminent danger of his wounded comrades who had taken shelter from the shower of shells and to withdraw. In the course of this mission he was hurt, and his traces disappeared. Moshe was registered as a “missing person” on July 14, 1948. After his body was discovered, he was buried in Sheik Badar on September 10, 1950. He was taken to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mt. Herzl in Jerusalem.
