Shmuel (Shmulik) Tzelnik
Son of Avigdor and Shoshana. He was born on February 21, 1947. His parents, Holocaust survivors, went through all the horrors of the ghettos in Lodz and Auschwitz, and finally, in 1948, they succeeded in immigrating to Israel with Shmuel the baby. From the neighborhood of Hatikvah, where they settled at the beginning of their arrival, where Shmuel studied in the Hess elementary school. After graduating from elementary school, Shmuel turned to the professional maritime school “Mikhmoret” and when he returned on vacation he shared his experiences with his friends. He would often travel to remote continents and bring with them a wealth of experiences and impressions from the various sights and customs. His soul was then strained for his new mission. During his service he underwent many courses and served as an engine mechanic in the Eilat destroyer. So the days passed before the days of anxiety before the Six-Day War. In those days Samuel was sorry that he had not fought the war with her. Shmuel sailed in the destroyer but not for long, because on the 18th of Tishrei 5728 (October 21, 1967) the destroyer was attacked by Egyptian missiles and drowned in front of a Romanian coast in the north Sinai. Since his body was not found in the depths of the sea, a monument was erected in his memory on the Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. After that, a gravestone was placed separately in the Haifa military cemetery. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
