Shmilowitz, Israel


Son of Avraham and Chaya. He was born in Kiryat Motzkin on April 30, 1955. He studied at the Revivim Elementary School in Kiryat Haim and graduated from the Samet High School in Haifa. Israel was a diligent and disciplined student and excelled in mechanical engineering, his high school curriculum. From his youth, Israel joined the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement in Kiryat Haim and eventually went to Shalhat in Kibbutz Nir Eliyahu in the framework of his activities in the movement, and he enjoyed the work at the local factory and when he was 14, his father was killed in a car accident. Even after he went to study in Haifa, he continued to maintain excellent relations with his childhood friends in Kiryat Haim, where he was drafted into the IDF in November 1973 and volunteered for the Israel Air Force. After basic training he was sent to an aviation course, but dropped out of it after about a year. At the same time, Israel was proud of the fact that he managed to fly and remembered the course as an enjoyable and interesting time. He was sent to the Israel Air Force base in the south of the country as an equipment operator and a non-commissioned officer, and during his service in the unit he met his friend Arna, and they intended to marry later.In 1976 he asked to be sent to an officer’s course and completed the basic course, To the rank of sergeant On October 26, 1976, Israel fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by a mother and sister. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Israel was a quiet and modest soldier who fulfilled his duties with full faith and recognition of the importance of his work. Israel’s friend – Erna Seltzer – wrote a book of poems ‘Peima’, dedicated to Israel, published by “Salon”.
