Shlomi, Roni
Roni, son of Raya and Ezra Shlomi, was born in 1959 in Mishmar HaEmek. In the middle of October 1977, Roni enlisted in the IDF. Roni took a pilot course and began his regular service. Prior to his discharge from the army, he returned to the flight school, this time as a mentor. On the 20th of Tammuz (18.7.1995), Roni fell in the line of duty in an air accident. It was during an administrative flight, in which a number of fighter planes from various squadrons participated, when two F-16s collided off the coast of Rosh Hanikra. Roni, who flew one of the planes, crashed into the sea and was killed. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in his kibbutz, Mishmar Ha’emek. He left behind his wife and their two children.
