Sherman, Benjamin

Benyamin, Ben Ita, and Yitzhak, a Holocaust survivor, was born in Beit Yehoshua on April 8, 1954. Benjamin was drafted into the IDF in August 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After basic training, he completed a tank training course and was an outstanding trainee. Afterward, he took a course in tank commanders and was later known as a responsible tank commander. Throughout his army service, he took care of his parents. He wanted to take care of them and did not complain in order not to upset them with the difficult training. After completing the course, he was placed as a guide on the same basis, and he was very proud of this, because he saw this as a sign of trust and appreciation toward him from the base commanders. We never had any conflicts with him. The authority he held as a commander was saved in such a way that we saw him as a friend rather than a commander. As a guide my son was one of the best we had. He knew the material in its entirety, but we saw that it was not all about him. My son loved the instrument. “During the Yom Kippur War, Benny participated in the battles of containment against the Egyptians, and on October 7, 1973, his unit was stationed on the banks of the Suez Canal opposite Kantara, who called his friends by radio but could not rescue him His friends told him that he had fought with the tanks of the Egyptians, which had cost him, causing them heavy losses, and after he managed to get seventeen enemy tanks out of action, a missile hit his tank and he was killed on the spot. he was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. Survived by his parents and two sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant.
