Shem-Tov, Batsheva


The eldest daughter of Sarah and Avraham, was born on the 14th of Adar (March 14, 1930) in Jerusalem, to a devout and wealthy family in the city. At age of 13 she was ophaned
from her father and she had to go work and look after herself, and her brothers and sisters. She joined the underground Irgun Zvai Leumi (National Military Organization) in Jerusalem. During the War of Independence, she took part in defending and liberating Jerusalem. She once described her goal to one of her friends: “We must conquer Jerusalem and free it from all the outsiders. ” On the 9th of Tammuz 5708 (July 16, 1948), Batsheva was killed. She was buried in Sheik-Bader Aleph.
On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) she was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Har-Herzl in Jerusalem.
