Shelo, Gil
Gil, son of Ruth and Isser. He was born on 25.11.1951 in Kibbutz Ma’ayan Zvi, a third son to his parents. He completed his elementary studies at the kibbutz school and completed his high school studies at the agricultural school in Kfar Galim. Gil was a comfortable, pleasant, inquisitive child, interested in everything that happened around him. From childhood he enjoyed the educational benefits that the kibbutz gives its children. He was interested in extensive sports activities, from swimming, including regional and local competitions, to table tennis, which devoted most of his energy to him for a long time as a member of the Hapoel Maayan Zvi. Gil was also a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement, and within the framework of the Union of Jewish Youth, he participated in conferences and camps organized by the movement. In this framework he also participated in many tennis-table competitions for adults. In addition, he participated in the Gadna activities, which were included in the school’s activities, and in time he also learned to play clarinet, and succeeded in reaching the appropriate level for performances at parties and on the eve of the holidays in his kibbutz. His classmates and the kibbutz liked him for his comfortable temperament and education, and in the summer of 1968 he was chosen to be included in a youth delegation that left for Germany, where he was sent to Kibbutz Alumot, where he worked mainly in the fodder industry. August 1971 and assigned to the Navy. After basic training, he took a course in defensive divers and was assigned to the position of defensive diver in the naval commando unit. The training he had done with great success was particularly difficult and challenging, and the unusual job required excellent qualities and qualities. He did not complain or share his difficulties with his relatives and friends, and did his duty with responsibility and confidentiality, as required of him. He later won the only prize for his performance. As part of its activities, the unit also participated in the raid on Beirut. He combined military activity with military sports, and played table tennis on the Israel Navy team, which ranked second in the IDF’s final ranking, during which Gil tried to do as much as possible and also rest a little, reading, playing, playing and visiting his friends. And his family at the same time, when he returned to his unit, he was always greeted with joy by his friends in the soul, who went through difficult and Yaffa periods with him during the Yom Kippur War.In the Yom Kippur War Gil participated in the battle against the Egyptians in Sinai. The pier was erected on October 24, 1973, when its half-track was hit by anti-tank fire. West of the Suez Canal, and Gil was killed. He was brought to eternal rest in his kibbutz section of the cemetery in Zichron Yaakov. Survived by his parents and two brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Gil was an excellent fighter of the Marine sabotage unit.” His kibbutz published a pamphlet in memory of the fallen members of the kibbutz, who fell in the Yom Kippur War.
