Shamai, Yoseph


Yosef, son of Shulamit and Nissim Shamai, was born in Aleppo, Syria in 1929. In 1943 he immigrated to Israel with his parents and worked in metal. He fought in the ranks of the” Palmach “battalion of the Palmach brigade in the battles of Abu-Gosh, Jerusalem, Hartuv and Chulda. Even in times of danger the smile did not fall from his lips.
Yosef fell on the 28th of Tammuz 5708 (August 3, 1948) from the bullet of a sniper. He was buried in Chulda. On the 8th of Cheshvan 5710 (19.10.1950) he was laid to rest in the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
