Shamai, Nissim


Son of Rachel and Joseph. Born on November 24, 1946 in Tel Aviv, Nissim studied at the “G” elementary school in Tel Aviv, Gordon Elementary School and the “Shevach” vocational high school in the general mechanics track. Nissim worked for the IDF to support the family in the “service” garage in Tel Aviv. For a long time, Nissim was the main breadwinner. At the beginning of February 1968, Nissim was drafted into the IDF, completing basic training and being assigned to the Israel Air Force, and Nissim, who had high technical skills, was sent to the IAF Technical School for a ground equipment mechanic course and an auxiliary equipment course. And was sent to serve as ground equipment mechanic. In February 1971, Nissim completed his compulsory service and began his civilian life. In 1977, Nissim joined the army. He was sent to expand his professional training in an electrician-aircraft course, in a course for team leaders and was sent to serve as a senior mechanic. After a period of time he moved to serve at the Air Force base in Lod. Nissim worked as MA In the garage and served as a senior mechanic in the ground equipment department. In his opinion on resistors, his commanders wrote: “He is an excellent professional, few like him, punctual, thorough, serious and responsible, capable of improvisation and resourceful ability, loves work, does not suffer from idleness and is a good example of motivation and morality. L. Nissim advanced from the rank of sergeant to the rank of Major-General. During his service Nissim married Chana. Over the years their two daughters – Carmit and Rachel – were born. On the 19th of Tevet 5758 (9.1.1988) he fell while serving. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Holon. Survived by Raya – Hannah and two daughters – Carmit and Rachel, mother, brother, Ezra and sister – Nava. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, Nissim’s commander wrote: “From the beginning of his career at the base, Nissim was distinguished by the professional knowledge he proved, his unique ability to work … he was full of activity and determination,
