Amnon, son of Lea and Pinchas z “l, was born in Safed on August 7, 1949. He completed his elementary studies at the religious state school in Safed, where he learnt about the faith and loyalty to the religion of Israel. He was an avid sports enthusiast and was interested in soccer and the swimming industry, and spent much of his free time traveling around the country to get to know it. And in the city of his residence, Safed, everyone recognized him as the “good boy” Amnon, because he was a modest child, very friendly and loved the other. Amnon was drafted into the IDF in August 1967 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After completing a number of courses and touring armor, he was sent to a reconnaissance course, and was assigned to the reconnaissance unit of an elite armored brigade, and he was a good soldier, devoted and loyal. In August 1970, Amnon was released from regular service and returned to his family in Safed, where he began to work at the Bank Leumi branch in the city, but not for a long period, because he wanted to realize his ambition And after a year he moved from Safed to Jerusalem and began studying at the University And during his studies he used to visit the house every weekend on the Sabbath, and did not miss a single Sabbath, he used to go on reserve duty and fulfill his duty with devotion and loyalty When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Amnon was in the company of his family and fulfilled the commandment of the fast, and on Saturday night he was called to his unit, and after a hasty organization, the force went up to the Golan Heights. In front of many, he and his comrades fought in the Syrian armor columns. On the afternoon of Tuesday, October 9, 1973, Amnon was hit and killed in a heavy artillery shelling in the Hosheniya area. He was brought to eternal rest in the Safed cemetery. He was survived by a mother, two brothers and two sisters. After his fall, he was awarded the rank of First Sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of his unit wrote: “Amnon fell in battle during his duty in the Golan Heights, served in an armored unit and was an outstanding tour NCO. In my name and in the name of all the soldiers of the unit, I express our profound sorrow. “Amnon’s name was commemorated in a booklet published in memory of the fallen of Safed, where one of his friends wrote about him as a friend: “every time Amnon walked down Jerusalem streets he kept stoping to great everyone he knew”. his sister-in-law has published a pamphlet containing poems that were written by her to commemorate Amnon’s name, and his family donated a velvet curtain to a local synagogue to commemorate his name.
