Segal, David-Aryeh
Son Chaya and Yisroel, born on the 7th of Nissan, March 25, 1931 in Jerusalem. After graduating from the “Mizrahi” school, he studied bookkeeping and went to work.
His teachers and friends were amazed at the depth of his talent. When he saw the abuse of a Jew by British soldiers, he decided to join the Ha – No’ar ha – Oved youth movement. With the outbreak of the War of Independence David-Aryeh began his training for a Palmach combat unit in the “Yiftah” brigade. He was only 17 and participated with his older friends in the battles against ‘Kenny’ where they sought to subdue the rioters in the “Triangle” region. This was part of the “Nachshon” operation to get through to Jerusalem and then to break-in to the city.
He served as an operator on the Jerusalem front, and in Operation Danny to liberate the Judean Lowland. David-Aryeh was promoted and was probably the youngest sergeant in all of the Palmach. He was serious and strong and showed maturity in his thoughts and actions.
David-Aryeh was sent with his unit to protect the pipe-
water in the Negev and bravely carried out the orders to conquer outposts in the area of Egyptian enemy fire
and then removed an Arab cane that served as a shelter for terrorists in the pipeline. When installing a stand for a machine gun David-Aryeh was injured and was killed in Mishmar HaNegev on the 1st of Elul, Sunday, September 5, 1948. He was buried in Mishmar HaNegev. On the 23rd of Cheshvan 5706 (15.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the Nachalat Yitzchak military cemetery.
