Savir (Moskowitz), Avraham-Yosef (Yossi)


Avraham-Yosef (Yossi), son of Rachel and Mordechai, was born on March 5, 1948, in Nicosia, Cyprus. A few months later, his family immigrated to Israel and settled in Ra’anana. Avraham-Yosef was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in November 1965 and assigned to the Golani infantry brigade, where he served as a high-tech technician in Tel Aviv, “With his will and persistence, he completed his basic basic training, was ordained as a rifleman and a combat soldier and assigned to one of the regiments of the brigade. During his service, his health deteriorated and his “medical profile” was lowered. He was therefore assigned to a non-combat position in the brigade in the central region, and was trained as a warehouse clerk. From there he was transferred to the Nahal Command and later served in one of the command units, and since he was very interested in completing his education, he had a limited time in the theoretical subjects, volunteered for another four and a half months, and attended a course for secondary education at the School of Education. And in 1972 he moved to Ashdod and began to work as a technician at Israel Aerospace Industries in Lod, and in 1972 he married his girlfriend, Dorit, who was born to a young couple named Noam, who loved his wife and son. Every moment of leisure was devoted to helping his wife at home and playing with his son He was one of the founders of a new artillery unit and accompanied her in all her training and operations, and Yossi was always among the first to serve in reserve duty, On the eve of Yom Kippur 1974, he moved with his family to another apartment, and Yossi labored in assembling faucets, connecting electric cables and installing cabinets. When the order came, Yossi abandoned everything and rushed to his unit. The unit was sent to Sinai and participated in battles of containment and break-up on both sides of the Suez Canal. On October 18, 1973, he was hit and killed by enemy fire in the Red Sea, on the shore of the Great Bitter Lake, and was brought to rest in the Ashdod cemetery, leaving behind a wife, son and parents.
