Sarig, Ofir

Sarig, Ofir

Son of Tovah and Ze’ev. Was born in Hadera on the 5th of Shevat 5734 (5.2.1974), an older brother to Yaniv and Yaron. Ofir was born in the very beginning of the Yom Kippur War, when his father fought on the West Bank front of the Suez Canal. He was the eldest son of his parents and the first grandson of two families of Holocaust survivors. A beautiful, blue-eyed, blond-haired boy who had been the center of the family and had received love, attention, and great pampering. Ophir grew up in Netanya. He began his studies at Bialik Elementary School. At the time, music was the center of his life. He bought a sophisticated system and dedicated every available penny to buy cassettes and CDs, which accumulated for a rare collection. Already in his youth he had a technical sense. Ophir liked to dismantle and repair electrical appliances, so it was natural and clear that his choice was at the ORT Yad Leibovitz High School, in the CAD program. In the middle of July 1992, Ophir enlisted in the IDF. On 29 June 1997, on their way back from Eilat, near the city of Dimona, there was a road accident when a vehicle traveling in front of them deviated from its course and collided head-on. His friend Shlomi was injured in the accident and Ofir lost his life and he was twenty-three years old. He was laid to rest at the Netanya military cemetery. Survived by his parents and two brothers.
