Sapir, Yosef

Sapir, Yosef

Son of Tuvia. He was born in 1916 in Mitzpeh in the Lower Galilee, the second generation to the founders of the moshavah, and at the age of seven was orphaned by his father and mother, he was left to care for six children. At the age of 12, he went to work to support the family. In the 1936 bloody riots he enlisted as a guard to protect Mitzpeh and a year later he began to guard the “Potschaft” of the PICA company, and his goal was to save money in order to move to the settlement. Yosef was a handsome young man, tall and strong. His Arab friends warned him that a gang was waiting for his steps, so he demanded that the PICA attach another guard to him but to no avail, despite the danger he left every morning armed and on his noble mare. On 12 Sivan, June 11, 1938, he was murdered in the Pika Forest by rioters waiting for him in an ambush. He was laid to rest in Mitzpe. Yosef left brothers and sisters. His memory was commemorated in the book “Fifty Years of Settlement in the Lower Galilee”. The newspaper Davar published a list of his life and image.
