Was born on February 4, 1927 in Kolbuszowa, Poland, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1935. He completed an elementary school in Rishon LeZion and the Max Payne vocational school in Tel Aviv He worked hard to improve the material situation of the family, but did not refrain from fulfilling his obligation to the homeland even when it cost him a job. He participated in the construction of the 11 points in the Negev, and in the early days of the War of Independence he volunteered for an active duty, completing an officers’ course and becoming commander of a platoon in the Givati Brigade. In the framework of Operation Chametz for the encirclement of Jaffa, a battalion from the Givati Brigade attacked Tel A-Rish (Tel Giborim today) near Holon, on the night of 29.4.1948, the force conquered the hill and began The enemy organized quickly and with the help of reinforcements from Jaffa carried out a counter-attack.The force, which did not manage to organize itself, retreated under pressure from the Arab attack, first to the southern slope of the tell He remained in his position to ensure that his men would withdraw in a military order to prevent unnecessary losses, and that he fell there on April 28, 1948. On August 30, 2007, a military ceremony was held for the discovery of the gravestone with the participation of Yechiel’s family and military officials. A few months later, at the family’s request, he was transferred to the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion where his parents are buried.
