Rivlin, Yechiel


Son of Ida and Rafael, was born on September 12, 1924 in Tel Aviv. For four years he lived with his parents in Acre and later in Herzliya. His parents were among the first immigrants to live in Acre and one of the founders of the Zifzif group. In Herzliya he completed elementary school and subsequent grades and was known for his good qualities, and this was the case even when he studied at the Givat Hashlosha Regional School. He joined the Haganah and the Palmach in 1942. In 1942, he enlisted in the British army to fight “not the English, but the destroyed European Jewry,” as he explained, serving as a driver in the Western Water Supply Unit 405 and later in other positions, After his release, he worked in a cooperative work in the sidewalk industry, and because of the slightest fear of exploiting others, he left the partnership and turned to daily work, which he liked and respected the working man above all. At the beginning of the War of Independence he enlisted in full service, was one of the first drivers In the Artillery Corps and took part in battles in all parts of the country, in the battle of Zar’in, his car was hit by a landmine and three days later, on May 1, 1948, he died of his wounds and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Herzliya.
