Red, Jacob


Son of Sarah and Moshe. He was born on the 5th of Sivan 5709 (June 2, 1949) in Poland and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1950. He studied at the Nahlieli Elementary School in Haifa. Afterward he continued his studies at the “Hagra” Yeshiva, and until his enlistment in the IDF worked as an assistant bookkeeper. Yaakov was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early November 1967 and joined the IDF Rabbinical Corps after completing basic training and training in a kosher training course. Yaakov spent many years in the career army and became a senior sergeant. The following are the evaluations of his commanders in his personal file: “He is skilled in his profession, dedicated and intelligent, very efficient at work, the kitchen is very good, very much because of him, quiet and dedicated. He received the signal of the Yom Kippur War, the Operation Peace for the Galilee and the letter of the operational service. Jacob married Ilana and eventually had three sons: Moshe, Yossi and Danny. He was a devoted husband and father. Yaakov sings a Yaffa cantorial style Ashkenazi and teaches children sermons for Bar Mitzvah. On the 14th of Tevet 5749 (December 14, 1988), Yaakov fell in his service and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa, leaving behind a wife, three sons and a sister, Esther, who received a certificate of appreciation and respect for his service. : “We remember him as a true friend, a Yaffa soul and an educator. In his unique and characteristic way, he supported us in moments of pressure and embarrassment. The smile and the humor became part of the single being and the address that helped us tirelessly. Yaakov was part of the Navy family, he served in all the corps, the Red Sea, the base of Ashdod, the training base and the base of Haifa, where he served most of the period. His devotion and loyalty to his friends, his precision in his work and his knowledge, placed him in the first row of the unit’s opponents. The family, the unit, the navy and the IDF have lost a man whose service symbolized the fulfillment of the people in his land,
